What to Expect from Care at Silver Lining Psychiatry

Beginning your mental health journey is a deeply personal step and choosing a psychiatrist is an important decision, and finding the right fit matters. We ensure the transition from your initial scheduling to your intake evaluation and ongoing follow-up visits is clear, collaborative, and focused on your unique needs.

Before scheduling an initial evaluation, we offer a complimentary 15-minute phone call to prospective patients to learn more about the practice, discuss what they are looking for in care, and determine whether our approach and services may be a good fit for their needs.

At Silver Lining Psychiatry, treatment is never reduced to a brief medication visit. Each session incorporates psychotherapy-informed care alongside careful consideration of best-practice treatment options. Medication, when appropriate, is used intentionally and collaboratively, not as a shortcut, but as one component of a comprehensive plan aimed at long-term stability and resilience.

• A thorough, nuanced diagnostic evaluation that honors the complexities of your personal history.

• Collaborative decision-making where your preferences and goals guide the treatment plan.

• A focus on sustainable change, prioritizing your long-term wellness over temporary relief.

• Integration of therapeutic skills along with deep, insight-oriented exploration for lasting clarity.

At Silver Lining Psychiatry, we provide secure telehealth psychiatric care in accordance with current federal and Illinois laws. When medically appropriate, we may prescribe Schedule II–V medications during live video appointments, consistent with applicable telehealth regulations. Federal telehealth prescribing policies are frequently evolving and currently extended through December 31, 2026. These rules and allowances are subject to change based on future state or federal guidance. All prescriptions are issued for legitimate medical purposes following a thorough evaluation, appropriate risk assessment, and review of Illinois prescription monitoring requirements.

Comprehensive Evaluation

Our initial consultation is a thoughtful, thorough session dedicated to understanding the whole person. We go beyond symptoms to explore your unique history, lifestyle, and goals, ensuring we build a foundation for care that feels both secure and clear from the very first visit. While most individuals continue their care with Silver Lining Psychiatry after this visit, ongoing treatment is based on a mutual determination that the practice is an appropriate fit for your clinical needs. A detailed treatment plan will be determined through shared-decision making by the conclusion of your visit. While the first visit is an important starting point, truly understanding a person takes time.

Dr. Silverberg also offers comprehensive second-opinion assessments for individuals seeking clarification about a diagnosis, medication regimen, or treatment approach. These assessments provide an opportunity to review your history and current treatment thoughtfully and discuss potential options moving forward.

Patients who have not been seen for 24 months are considered new patients.

Return Visits

The therapeutic relationship begins at the first visit, but meaningful understanding develops over time. Follow-up care is a collaborative process where we monitor progress, refine treatment strategies, and ensure you feel supported in your long-term mental health goals. These sessions allow for meaningful adjustments in a calm, focused environment.

Medications do not always have to be a forever plan. At each visit, we thoughtfully reassess your treatment to ensure it continues to serve your needs and goals. When appropriate, Dr. Silverberg takes an active approach to safely tapering medications and de-prescribing when treatment is no longer necessary.

25 minutes or 45 minutes

Extended follow up visits and family sessions are available at time of booking and in discussion with your doctor.

Appointments can be requested/scheduled via the patient portal, email, or phone.

Policies & Billing

Billing & Good Faith Estimates

Silver Lining Psychiatry operates as a dedicated self-pay, out-of-network provider. By working independently of insurance company limitations, we can offer higher levels of flexibility, privacy, and personalized accessibility for your care. Fees are gathered at each session. We believe you should know the cost of care before deciding whether to begin treatment and therefore do not hide our fees behind an inquiry phone call.

While we are not a direct-billing facility, we issue comprehensive superbills that you can file with your carrier for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your specific coverage. Under the federal No Surprises Act, we provide a Good Faith Estimate of all anticipated clinical costs to every self-pay patient. To understand your policy details, we suggest speaking with your insurance company or visiting your online portal. For clarity regarding our specific fees or financial protocols, we will discuss the best path forward for your mental health investment during your free pre-intake phone call.

To further offset the cost of treatment, many workplaces offer a healthcare flexible spending accounts (FSA), which allow patients to use pre-tax dollars for treatment.

Questions for Insurance Provider

Since out-of-network benefits vary by plan, we recommend you contact your insurance provider in advance to ask:

1.) What is my out-of-network reimbursement rate for a psychiatrist visit?

2.) Where do I submit the provider "superbill" for reimbursement?

No Show & Same-Day Cancellation Policy

We value consistency and mutual respect in our clinical partnership. To provide the best care for all patients, we require at least 24 hours notice for any cancellation. Appointments missed or canceled with less than 24 hours notice will be billed at the full session fee. This policy helps us maintain availability for those seeking timely support. As a courtesy for certain extenuating circumstances, this fee may be waived one time only, but this is not guaranteed.
